可再生能源泛指多种取之不竭的能源，严谨来说，是人类有生之年都不会耗尽的能源。可再生能源不包含现时有限的能源，如化石燃料和核能。
大部分的可再生能源其实都是太阳能的储存。可再生的意思并非提供十年的能源，而是百年甚至千年的。
随着能源危机的出现，人们开始发现可再生能源的重要性。
